Kit is a factory defaults lens that you get when you buy a Digital SLR camera body or Digital mirrorless Camera body. KIT lens also referred to as normal lens or standard Focal length. the focal length in KIT lens is equal to image diagonal dimension projected into the camera censor. one of the advantage of this type of lenses is this lens resulting images with the most natural perspective when compared with another type of lens. Limited focal length
yes, commonly the focal length of this KIT lens is 18-55mm. i give an examples. someone standing in outside boarder of lion cage in the zoo, distance between outside boarder into the cage is 10 meters. then you are using KIT lens with focal length 18-55mm. it would be difficult to take closeup images, even in maximum focal length and the lion stay in the nearest fence of cage.
Less robust material structure
This kind of lens is commonly designed small and simple. unfortunately they are not accompanied by the provision of better materials. at this point, lot of lenses is only made with plastics and rubber that can be easily stretched.
Noisy auto-focus system
Not all KIT lens had a noisy auto focus system, but in common. yes they are bundled with noisy auto-focus system.
